A world above the skies

The surface world is gone.

Far above the wasteland below, humanity survives on floating islands scattered across an endless sky. Great trade fleets cross dangerous aerial routes while pirates, mercenaries, monsters, and ancient powers fight over the future of civilization.

In Soaring Skies, players become Voyagers: captains, engineers, mercenaries, explorers, mages, smugglers, and sky pirates carving their fate among the Seven Rings.

Command massive airships. Discover forgotten ruins. Hunt sky beasts. Fight boarding actions across burning decks. Explore living islands that drift through the clouds.

Atmosphere

The world of Soaring Skies blends dieselpunk industry, arcane technology, naval warfare, and high-fantasy exploration into a cinematic tabletop experience focused on freedom, danger, and adventure above the clouds. Think treasure planet meets dishonored in a high fantasy setting where it all blends together for an amazing world to explore and experience.

Setting

This is a world of floating cities, living islands, colossal sky creatures, ancient machines, and factions constantly struggling for power. Some seek fortune. Some seek knowledge. Others seek control of the skies themselves. But beyond the known trade routes and crowded skyports lies the vastness, hundreds upon hundreds of unexplored islands, ancient secrets and adventures to be had.

Character Creation and Core Mechanics

Character Creation

Every Voyager is defined by five core attributes:

  • Strength
  • Dexterity
  • Mind
  • Charisma
  • Perception

Attributes expand and add to your dice pool, while skills represent mastery and training, granting flat bonuses to the relevant actions. A Voyager with Stealth 2 consistently outperforms one without any skill points in the Stealth skill.

Built around a flexible classless system, Soaring Skies gives players complete control over what their character excels at and how they grow throughout a campaign.

Talents

Talents further define your Voyager through specialized techniques and powerful abilities. Whether mastering aerial dueling, reading the winds, manipulating storms, or regenerating wounds that would kill ordinary people, Talents allow every character to feel unique and powerful in their own way

From the Bestiary

The bestiary includes mentions of a number of different monsters and creatures inhabiting the skybound realms as well as their descriptions and stats, explaining both how the creatures behave but also their special game mechanics.

In skybound realms creatures and monsters are interwoven with the nature around them, both influencing and being influenced by it, creating complex ecosystems where nature and creature feels like part of the same organism.

Broadsides Above the Clouds

Build and command fully modular airships, customizing everything from engines, shields, weapons, and magical components. Every choice affects how your ship performs in combat, exploration, and survival among the skies.

Where Ships and Men Collide

Combat in Soaring Skies combines traditional tabletop roleplaying combat with tactical wargame style airship battles.

Players seamlessly switch between controlling their characters during boarding actions, repairs, and combat, whilst also commanding ships, positioning fleets, managing systems, and engaging in large-scale aerial warfare.

The result is a dynamic combat system where personal action and massive ship battles happen simultaneously on the same battlefield, where players characters can effect the ships, and the ships themselves affecting the player combat, changing the map, lightning sail a fire, or breaking mast creating sudden changes in environments.

Flagship Class

The Bucephallus, Flagship Class Ship

A fortress of riveted iron and roaring engines, the Bucephallus was built for the kind of wars that decide the fate of entire sky nations. Massive armored plating, broadside artillery, reinforced fins, and heavy levitite cores allow it to endure battles that would tear smaller ships apart.

In Soaring Skies, every vessel is shaped through modular shipbuilding and specialized systems. Weapons, engines, shields, support modules, and crew roles all influence how a ship fights, travels, survives storms, and navigates the vast skies beyond the Seven Rings.

No two ships sail alike, and no two crews survive the skies the same way.

Every Voyager Has a Story

Shape your character through attributes, skills, equipment, magic, and Talents, each one customizable to your own vision.

Create a storm pilot who reads the wind before it turns. An engineer keeping the Aetherite core alive mid-battle. A duelist built for boarding actions. A mage, cartographer, sharpshooter, alchemist, or sky-hardened mercenary all chasing fortune beyond the clouds.
